Macalester often brings in speakers and hosts events related to human rights and humanitarianism. Recent guest speakers have included:
- Suzanne Nossel, Executive Director of the PEN American Center – Funded by the Amy Ostermeier Human Rights Education Fund (2013);
- Tonderai Chikuhwa, Macalester Class of 1996, Programme Officer at the United Nations in the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (2011);
- Philip Alston, John Norton Pomeroy Professor of Law, New York University School of Law (2010)
- Rebecca Cook, Chair of International Human Rights Law and Co-Director of the International Programme on Reproductive and Sexual Health Law, University of Toronto (2010)

Internships
Macalester students regularly do internships with human rights and humanitarian organizations in the Twin Cities. These organizations include:
