Other Absences

All staff members should communicate to their manager about any of the leave types mentioned below. All Faculty members should connect with the Provost Office to discuss class coverage while out of the office.

Jury Duty

All staff and faculty employees are eligible for Jury Duty Leave. An employees pay and eligible benefits will continue without interruption for up to one month. Employees are not required to report any compensation received for serving Jury Duty. The employee is expected to report to their department for work during normal working hours when the jury is in recess.

Staff employees will be required to report the hours used as Jury Duty on their timesheet or leave report equal to the hours they are normally scheduled to work for jury duty.

Minnesota School Conference & Activity Leave

All staff and faculty employees have 16 hours of protected time away from work during each calendar year to attend school functions that cannot be scheduled outside of regular working hours. Activities may include, but are not limited to: conferences, school-related activities and program/service observation or monitoring. For staff and collective bargaining unit members, time taken is unpaid, though an employee may choose to utilize vacation time to receive full pay.

Voting Leave

All staff and faculty employees are permitted paid time away, for eligible elections, on the day of that election. Eligible elections include state and federal elections, as well as all regularly scheduled local elections. Individuals, per State Statute, may take only as much time as needed to vote and then proceed to or return to work, if within normally scheduled hours. Utilization of vacation time is not permitted and non-exempt staff employees should report those hours as Time Off to Vote on their timesheet.

Election Judge Leave

All staff and faculty employees participating as an election judge will be paid regular wages on Election Day. The employee is not required to report any compensation received for serving as an Election Judge. Utilization of vacation time is not permitted. Staff will be required to report the hours used as Election Judge Leave on their timesheet or leave report equal to the hours they are normally scheduled to work on the day acting as an Election Judge.

Bone Marrow Leave

Staff and faculty employees with an FTE of 0.50 or greater, with appointments of six months or greater, are eligible for up to one week of paid time off to undergo a medical procedure to donate bone barrow. This time away may be taken on an intermittent basis as it is necessary. Employees will be required to provide a Certification of Healthcare Provider form from their treating clinician. Bone Marrow Donor leave will not be charged against any other type of time off balances.
