Science Peer Tutor Job Description

MAX Center peer science tutors assist students enrolled in 100 level science courses, and must be comfortable tutoring for CHEM 111/112 – General Chemistry I and II. They work with students one-to-one or in groups and engage in research and ongoing projects in the MAX Center and on campus. They must participate in bi-weekly science tutor meetings and complete the tutor training program.

  • Science tutor candidates must have completed CHEM 111/112 (or CHEM115) and have earned a grade of B+ or better.
  • Science tutors must have excellent communication skills, a thorough knowledge of their subject area, and the ability to work well with individuals and groups.
  • In addition to applying through JobX, applicants will also be required to complete a written application and come in for an interview with MAX Center Staff. Stephanie Alden, Coordinator of SI and Science Support, will facilitate this process.
