Kira Winter joins the music department at Macalester College as Visiting Instructor and Interim Director of Choral Activities for the Spring semester of 2019 conducting the Macalester Concert Choir and Chorale. Kira was previously Resident Conductor for the Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum (Cambridge, MA) and Assistant Conductor for Boston Choral Ensemble. In 2013, Kira started a music program at the Health and Human Services High School in Lawrence, MA where she served as Music Teacher and Choral Director. Kira is a two-time recipient of the Sontag Prize for Urban Education and Harvard’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning Certificate of Distinction in Teaching. An active vocalist, Kira has sung with Boston New Music Initiative, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Lorelei Ensemble, and is a former soprano choral scholar at Boston University’s Marsh Chapel. She holds a master’s degree in choral conducting from Boston University where she studied with Ann Howard Jones and a bachelor’s degree in music from St. Olaf College where she studied with Anton Armstrong. Kira is currently a second-year DMA student in conducting and voice performance at the University of Minnesota where she studies with Kathy Saltzman Romey, Matthew Mehaffey, and Wendy Zaro-Mullins. She also serves as Director of Music Ministries at Farmington Lutheran Church.
