Lizzie Barry

Associate Director of Residential Life | Learning & Development

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Lakeville, Minnesota, and have spent most of my life in my home state. Early in my career, I spent about seven years living in Reno, Nevada, which gave me a second place to call home and a lasting appreciation for the area.

What are your main responsibilities?

I oversee the Life@MAC programming model, Living Learning Communities, student staff hiring and training, and the supervision of Residence Hall Directors. I approach my work with an intentional focus on student learning and development while bringing energy and fun to the experience. Authenticity is important to me, and I strive to lead in a way that is genuine and relationship-centered.

What do you love most about Mac?

I really love the Macalester community. Our students, staff, and faculty bring a remarkable sense of purpose to their work and a deep commitment to the college’s mission, which makes it an inspiring place to be every day.

What is your favorite hobby?

My hobbies are as eclectic as my playlists. I can be equally excited about a college football game, the newest musical at the Orpheum, a Marvel movie, a beach vacation, the next book for my book club, or a murder mystery party. I love discovering new interests and meeting new people, so don’t hesitate to say hello and share your favorite hobbies and passions, too.
