Brigetta (Britt) Abel (BA Cornell University; MA and PhD, University of Minnesota) has been a member of the Macalester German Studies program since 2000. She has taught all language courses in the first three years of the curriculum, led the study abroad program in Vienna, and developed advanced seminars, including one on “Sex and the (German) City.” Recently, Britt has spent her time working on vampires and the evolution of the image of the vampire in the twentieth century, which resulted in the development of a first-year course entitled “Vampires: from Monsters to Superheroes.” Her other research interests include exile literature and film, feminist approaches to the study of things German, technology enhanced language learning, and writing pedagogy. Britt has assisted on the development of several campus-wide writing initiatives (Write Well videos and the Supplemental Writers’ Workshop, among others) and serves as the college’s Director of Writing. Her current project is an open-access, online German textbook, Grenzenlos Deutsch, that is being produced collaboratively and funded in part through a digital humanities advancement grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
