One of the Serie Center’s most important roles is working with new faculty. Far more than merely helping our newest colleagues acclimate to Macalester’s culture or understanding the tenure review process, we also want to create conditions conducive to career satisfaction and professional success. We believe the best way to do that is through hospitality. Thus, we bring new colleagues together in a variety of contexts to meet and enjoy one another, share experiences, learn new information and skills.

Each year, the Serie Center schedules programs in its Talking About Teaching and Conversations About our Scholarly Lives series that especially appeal to new faculty members. We also run a spring semester “PDP-Writing Workshop” for pre-tenure colleagues about to go up for review. However, our most significant efforts are hosting workshops during New Faculty Orientation and the year-long New Faculty Seminar for pre-tenure colleagues in their first year at Macalester.
