Vanessa Phelan

Vanessa Phelan earned a BSBA in Marketing and Logistics from John Carroll University (OH) in 2002 and a MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University (OH) in 2004. She started her student affairs career in Residence Life at St. John’s University (NY) and then Xavier University (OH). She was the Associate Director for Student Affairs at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati (OH) when she stepped away from full-time work to be the primary caregiver for her two daughters. After a nine-year-long stint serving as a part-time freelance writer on various higher education and K-12 education topics, she joined the Sociology department at Macalester as Department Coordinator in 2023.
