Strategic Plan Implementation Update: January, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
It was a delight to see so many of you brave the bitter cold last week to join in the half-day retreat in Kagin!
This robust session (view summary slide deck) included:
Reflections from Paul Handstedt, author of “General Education Essentials,” about approaches to reforming general education curricula
Discussing and reworking three DRAFT general education models presented by the Curriculum Implementation Committee (CIC) based on input to date. The CIC is working to iterate potential model(s) based on the whiteboard ideas and summarized by table representatives.
“One slide- three minute” updates from:
- Louisa Bradtmiller about activities related to advising
- Laurie Adamson and Louisa Bradtmiller on changes towards modifying the First Year Experience (FYE)
- Jen Guyer-Wood and Dennis Cao on progress toward refining criteria for high-impact practices (HIPs) at Macalester and preliminary data about student participation in these activities
- Catie Gardner Smith on alumni engagement activities
- Kara Zetzman on an employee engagement survey, which will be administered in February
A brief reminder of the institutional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the ways we each contribute toward achieving these goals.
