Visiting Assistant Professor

As an educator and dance practitioner, Maija Brown is committed to a pedagogy that addresses inequities and social justice in education.  Her areas of interest include Asian American theater/dance, stand up comedy, auto-ethnography, and public/private/tourist spaces that contest national narratives and histories.  As adjunct faculty in the Theater Arts and Dance Department at the University of Minnesota, she has taught Introduction to Dance, and Dance History courses.  Her work as a writing consultant at the Center for Writing at the University of Minnesota has shaped her conviction to help student writers succeed at every step in the writing process.  She has performed in works by Rosy Simas, Vanessa Voskuil, and Ananya Dance Theater.  In the fall of 2018, she will be performing with Aniccha Arts in a site specific work by Pramila Vasudevan. She earned her Ph.D. in Theater History from the University of Minnesota.
