Honduran Music & Afro-Indigenous Culture and Drumming Explorations

Central Americans For Empowerment is excited to host an interactive workshop Honduran Music & Afro-Indigenous Culture and Drumming Explorations. A workshop led by Jonathan Alarcón, a professional Honduran drummer whose depth and breadth of drumming knowledge and drum instruction creates an enriching and lively learning environment that supports learners from all backgrounds, musicians or not, beginning to advanced. During their time with Jonathan, all students have the opportunity to learn about the social justice challenges faced by several of the indigenous populations present in Honduras, in particular the Garífuna people who populate the northern coast of the country.  Using basic rhythm instruments that all can learn, Jonathan leads students through an exploration that includes songs of protest, including one sung in the Garífuna language!
