Raven Chacon: American Ledger No.1

American Ledger No. 1 (2018) is a narrative visual score for performance that tells the creation story of the founding of the United States of America. In chronological descending order: moments of contact, enactment of laws, events of violence, the building of cities, and erasure of land and worldview are mediated through graphic notation, and realized by sustaining and percussive instruments, coins, ax and wood, a police whistle, and a match. This event is a program of Law Warschaw Gallery's current exhibition, DEATHPOWER, curated by Erin Robideaux Gleeson.

The work is conducted for Macalester by Dameun Strange ('95), with performers from around the Twin Cities, including Mac students Firefly Childs and Sophia Noh. Raven Chacon will be in attendance, and will participate in a chat with Strange and the audience following.

This event is made possible by the Macalester Native and Indigenous (MNI) Initiative, made possible by the Heidepriem MNI Initiative Restricted Fund. Special thank you to the Music Department for their support and sharing of resources!
