He/Him

Hello, my name is Denton, and I am truly happy to be here at Macalester. It’s exciting to work alongside students and alumni as an ally for their career planning. I find it very rewarding to help others discover their own paths toward a meaningful career and navigate the inherent challenges of the job search.

My first job was in high school as a soccer ref at the YMCA. If I’m honest, it mostly taught me that I didn’t want to be a soccer ref and that refs have a tough job. It was an early moment of career clarity. I believe reflecting on all our experiences—even unconventional chapters of our stories—can provide guidance toward where we need to be. Since then, I’ve been accumulating a range of experiences and wisdom that I hope to pass on to the students I meet with.

The transitions in my own career are what allow me to guide others as they launch their professional journeys. Having worked, studied, and volunteered across five countries—Kenya, India, South Korea, Russia, and Germany—my background spans industries ranging from education (preschool to college and everything between), advertising and PR, as well as immigration and refugee-focused nonprofits. This history of pivoting between sectors and cultures allows me to offer empathetic, seasoned advice to those navigating their own transitions. I understand the uncertainty of beginning or pivoting a career, and I find great joy in helping others translate their interests and skills into new opportunities.

Outside of work, I hike with my dogs, play sports, read, and try to keep learning new things.
