Greg Halaby earned a PhD in Arabic language and literature from Harvard University’s Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations in 2019. His research focuses on Arabic language politics, as well as Arabic literary, intellectual, and cultural history in the Middle East and beyond.

Before joining Macalester, Professor Halaby taught Arabic, Comparative Literature, Persian (Farsi), and post-Colonial Studies at Harvard, Brown, and the American Institute in Aix-en-Provence. In his spare time, he enjoys Arabic stand-up comedy, crossword puzzles, and conversations about food.
