December Graduation Information

• Eligibility

  Eligible students will receive an email with information about how to register early in the fall semester.

  Questions about eligibilty should be directed to the Office of the Registrar. [email protected]

• Guests

  Graduates may invite as many people as they like to this ceremony. We will send an invitation after you register and you may share that with your family and friends. We do ask guests to register so that we can plan for adequate seating and refreshments.

  This event is also open to the Macalester community and we will share a guest registration link in the Mac Daily in the weeks leading up to the event.

• Regalia and Honor Cords

  Regalia:

  Eligible students may order their cap, gown and tassle via the registration form. Cap and gown orders are managed by The Highlander bookshop ([email protected]).

  • Wearing a cap and gown is not mandatory, but most students choose to wear them, and any black cap and gown could be substituted for renting one.
  • If the cost of renting a robe is prohibitive for you, please email [email protected] for assistance.
  • Graduates can pick up rental robes from the Highlander Bookstore during regular business hours. The Highlander will let you know when your regaila has arrived.

  Honor Cords:

  Because this ceremony happens before final grades are submitted, we are unable to distribute summa cum laude honors cords. If you believe you qualify for an honor cord or stole from an academic department, student organization, or affinity group, please contact them directly.

• Accessibility

  The Alexander G. Hill Ballroom is accessible by elevator at the south end of the building, in the portico between Kagin Commons and Markim Hall.

• Photographs and Video

  A Macalester photographer will be on-site and will take candid photos during the reception and ceremony. They will also take a photo of each graduate as they acccept their diploma folder. A link to the photo gallery will be shared with graduates within several business days of the event, and photos may be downloaded at no cost.

  The December graduation ceremony will be recorded. We will add the video link to this page within several business days of the event.
