As the Department Coordinator in the Community Engagement Center since 2018, Rachel brings the lens of a first-gen, low-income college graduate to all aspects of her work, and particularly enjoys connecting with the Bonner Community Scholars and first-gen students at Macalester. Rachel graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a degree in journalism and public relations, and received a Minnesota Newspaper Association Award in 2009 for “Best Social Issues Feature Story.” Throughout college, she worked as first reporter, then news editor of their college paper in addition to waitressing. From previous roles, Rachel has experience in the field of CPG marketing as well as communications for nonprofits and small businesses.
As an elected representative of academic staff and Chair of the Staff Advisory Council, Rachel advocated for worker-led positive change, fair wages, and meaningful shared governance through their work on the Staff Advisory Council and as a founding member of MAPE at Macalester.
