Michael (Mike) Householder is a scholar of early American and transatlantic literature to 1850. He is the author of Inventing Americans in the Age of Discovery: Narratives of Encounter (Ashgate 2011). He has a BA in English and an MA in Teaching English, both from Brown University, and a PhD in English from the University of California, Irvine. In his spare time he plays bagpipes in the Macalester College Pipe Band.
