Rachael Huener (B.A. St. Olaf College, M.A. Northwestern University, Ph.D. University of Minnesota) teaches a wide range of German Studies courses, in particular cultural history, 19th and 20th century German literature, and early film. She is active in the field of German Studies curriculum and pedagogy and enjoys the opportunities in the Macalester German Studies department for interdisciplinary work. Her research interests focus on pre-World War I commercial advertising stamps, in which she explores the relatively unknown medium of the Reklamemarke and analyses its social as well as commercial mediations. Recent professional activities included co-chairing the Minnesota AATG High School German Contest testing committee for 5 years. Recent courses taught include “The Birth of Modern Germany,” “Postwar Germany,” and “Berlin: Imperial Capitol, Metropolis, and Divided City.”
