David Milne
Director of MacJazz
David Milne is an accomplished jazz and classical saxophonist, versatile multi-woodwind performer, and dedicated music educator in musical settings ranging from creative improvised music, modern jazz, and popular styles to classical chamber, orchestral, and contemporary music. David is Professor Emeritus of Music at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he taught applied saxophone, jazz improvisation, jazz history, music business, directed the UWRF Jazz Ensemble and RADD Jazz Series, and served as an administrator. David continues his life-long career in music education as Visiting Professor of Music at Macalester College and as Music Faculty of Practice at Concordia University.
Based in Minneapolis/St Paul, David has performed in a wide range of professional settings, including Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, JazzMN Big Band, national touring theatrical productions, national touring jazz artists, and a diverse range of musical ensembles in the region. David performs with pianist and composer Laura Caviani in Tableaux, a multi-genre saxophone & piano duo which features jazz interpretations of “Impressionist” classical works, including music by Debussy, Faure, Ravel, and Satie. As a dedicated member of the ANCIA Saxophone Quartet, David performed as an active chamber musician, including commissions, premieres, concerts, recordings, grants, and diverse presentations with Chamber Music America, National Public Radio, Minnesota Public Radio, NAXOS Records, and New Albany Records.
Originally from Rochester, New York, David earned a D.M.A. in Saxophone Performance at the Eastman School of Music, M.M. in Woodwind Performance from Indiana University, and B.A. in Music and Communications from Indiana University. David performs and teaches internationally as a soloist, guest artist, and educator/clinician and has toured Asia, Europe, and the United States.
