Chuck Green Fellowship Application Details

•Application (a 1 page PDF resumé must be uploaded before this form can be submitted)
•Two Recommendations (by 1 supervisor/mentor and 1 peer)

Who Should Apply?

The six-month fellowship is open to Macalester juniors and sophomores in good academic standing (first preference will be given to juniors). Students of all majors are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate that they work well with others, are courageous, creative, gutsy, conscientious, inventive, and hard working.

2027 Fellowship Time Commitments

  • Spring seminar (January 25 – May 3): The seminar meets every Monday and Wednesday from 10:50am to 12:20pm. Class time on Wednesdays will be extended to 1:00pm for field trips taken approximately every other week; at least two weeks advance notice will be given to you for this extension.
  • Sunday, January 24th: Opening retreat. We may begin as early as 9:00am and conclude as late as 6:00pm. More details forthcoming. This opening retreat is mandatory for all Fellows.   
  • Monday, May 24- Friday, July 30: Full-time work with Twin Cities organizational partners. Fellows receive a stipend and 1 academic credit for their summer work. Any other paid, unpaid, or voluntary summer work during May-July must be discussed with Professor Lesley Lavery and clearly indicated on the application. F-1 visa-holding students should plan to contact ISP about securing CPT authorization in time for their summer work.
  • Wednesday, May 26: Summer kick off dinner from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Location TBA.
  • June 2nd- July 28th: Weekly cohort meetings on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-9:00 pm.  Attendance is mandatory.
  • Chuck Green Fellows will actively participate in all class sessions in the spring term, work collaboratively with one another and their Twin Cities partners throughout the fellowship, and be available to serve as peer advisers for the cohort of fellows to follow in their footsteps the next Spring.

The Chuck Green Fellowship selection committee will give careful consideration to all completed applications. Interviews with finalists will be conducted in late October.
