Flemming Room

The Flemming Room (Kagin 118) is located on the first floor of Kagin Commons. The Kagin Teaching Kitchen is an adjoining room. The Flemming Room is an intentional community space for events such as:

About the Flemming Room

The Flemming Room is named in honor of Arthur S. Flemming, who served as Macalester’s eleventh president from 1968-1971. President Flemming served as the United States Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare and was an important voice in the shaping of the United States Social Security program before arriving at Macalester. He twice received the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, first from President Eisenhower and later from President Clinton. At Macalester, President Flemming was a champion for access and was instrumental in the creation of the Equal Educational Opportunity (EEO) Program. He also oversaw creating an office of minority programs and an African American studies program, and increasing the number of faculty and staff members of color.

  • How do I reserve the Flemming Room?

    The Flemming Room is available to reserve through EMS. It is listed as an event space as Kagin 118 Flemming Room. EMS requires reservation submissions at least 2 weeks prior to your event. Please note that a reservation submission does not guarantee approval. You will receive an email confirmation for your event once it has been reviewed and approved. Reservations are approved on a first come, first serve basis.**

    Reserving the Flemming Room does not reserve the Kagin Teaching Kitchen. Please visit the Kagin Kitchen website to learn more about reserving.

    **Student organizations and collectives get priority access.

  • What technology/AV is available?

    The Flemming Room is equipped with a TV, HDMI cable, two microphones and Zoom capabilities.
  • What is the room capacity and setup options?

    The Flemming Room can fit 34 people at 7 tables in standard round setup and up to 75 people for lecture style. Please email Cornell at [email protected] if you would like to request lecture setup.
