Our office coordinates a variety of events over the academic year to highlight employers from a wide range of industries that match the interests of students.
Why attend?
Getting face time with an employer can make a valuable difference in the application process. Employers are getting record levels of applications and are relying more on relationships and connections to make hiring decisions.
In addition, employer events are a great way to learn more about the range of available internship and career opportunities and explore your values and interests. By talking directly with a current employer, you can learn information about company culture, hiring interests, and timelines that may not be available online. Tabling events provide low-stakes networking and interview practice and expose you to new roles that you might have not considered before.
Types of Events Hosted by Macalester
MacExplore
A program that brings small groups of students on trips to explore career fields in a variety of industries. Trips take place locally and nationally over fall and spring breaks. Our staff and faculty lead students on site visits, connect them to alumni, and give them opportunities to hone their networking and career search skills.

Find our Events
Our events are posted in many places. We also send an email each Monday during the school year to all students as a reminder of the upcoming week’s events. Some events require pre-registration or application and some are walk-up, so pay attention to posted details.
Local Job Fairs
In addition to events hosted by Macalester, Career Exploration supports students in attending local job fairs.
Hosted annually by the University of Minnesota in October, allowing students from Minnesota colleges to pursue opportunities at all levels of government and nonprofit agencies.
Hosted annually by the University of Minnesota in late January or early February, connecting local students with employers in the areas of biology, environmental science, and natural resource management.
Hosted annually at the Minneapolis Convention Center in February, bringing together students from Minnesota private colleges to connect with a wide variety of Twin Cities area organizations.
