Yanni is a quantitative macroeconomist whose research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics, finance, and public finance. The macro-finance strand of his research agenda examines how forces like tax policy, monopoly power, and globalization shape long-run movements in aggregate stock market valuations. In public finance, he studies how the structure of firms and labor markets shapes the optimal design of fiscal policy. His current projects examine the propagation of shocks through networks of privately held firms, the role of intangible business value in optimal wealth and capital-income taxation, and how Social Security policies that encourage work at older ages affect younger workers’ employment, education, and early careers—including whether the same resources would generate greater gains if directed toward younger workers.
