Thursday Noon Recitals are shared recitals. Each student will contribute one or two pieces, or a short set, to their recital.

Music Majors

  • Perform on 1 recital per semester for each semester that lessons are taken.
  • It is assumed that these performances will be on the student’s primary instrument.
  • Students who give senior capstone recitals are exempt from this requirement during the semester of the capstone, although they are encouraged to participate in preparation for the recital. Those who give department-sponsored (non-requiredhalf or full recitals are also exempt from this requirement during the semester of the recital, although they too are encouraged to participate in order to gain performance experience. Students whose capstones are not recitals are not exempt from the Thursday Noon Recital.
  • Sign-up sheets are available outside the Music Department Office (M201).

Music Minors

  • Perform on 1 recital per academic year on their primary instrument when lessons are taken that year. (Music minors are exempt if they are not taking lessons.)
  • Those who give department-sponsored half or full recitals are exempt from this requirement during the semester of the recital, although they are encouraged to participate in order to gain performance experience.
  • Sign-up sheets are available outside the Music Department Office (M201).

Non-Majors and Non-Minors

  • Public performance, in any setting, is not required for non-majors and non-minors enrolled in studio instruction.
  • Non-majors and non-minors may perform on Thursday Noon Recitals, space and time permitting. Space is often available on the first recital of the semester. Priority is given to majors and minors.
  • An appropriate level of performance for any performers on the Thursday Noon Recitals is expected. Studio instructors are urged to discourage students from participating if they have not yet reached a general college level of performance ability.

Documenting Performances

  • Studio instructors and students are responsible for documenting these performances on the end-of-semester grade sheet.
  • The Department will retain copies of all printed programs.
