Fresh Energy

For my Chuck Green Fellowship, I partnered with Fresh Energy, a clean energy advocacy nonprofit in St. Paul. I worked with their Built Environment director on a public policy initiative that aims to improve energy efficiency in Minnesota public schools. This involved a host of different tasks: developing a volunteer plan for the campaign, surveying key community stakeholders across the state, and working with the communications staff to craft messaging materials for the upcoming legislative session.

My fellowship was one of the most engaging experiences I’ve had at Macalester. The student-designed component of the spring semester course gave me insight into the varied interests and worldviews of the other Chuck Green fellows. My own interest in environmental issues found a natural extension in my summer project, where I learned a great deal about the local political landscape and the means by which organizations like Fresh Energy achieve real, measurable results for clean energy in Minnesota.
