Public Safety Notice
We would like to inform you of an incident that has recently occurred near campus so you have the information you need to take appropriate precautions. While this incident is not being reported as part of the College’s Timely Warning Notification Process, Security believes this information is important for campus wide distribution in the form of a Public Safety Notice rather than a Campus Safety Alert/Timely Warning, as a means of providing crime prevention and safety awareness information to the campus community and soliciting information that could assist in investigative efforts.
On 01/15/18 at approximately 6:30 PM, a Macalester student reported she was walking near Princeton Avenue and Cambridge Street when she was approached by two subjects who told her they had a gun. The student gave the subjects her iPhone. The student returned to campus and reported the incident to security.
The subjects are described as two males with dark skin, approximately 5’7″ wearing dark clothing.
Macalester College believes that descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on any individual. They are included here because they may reasonably assist in identifying the perpetrators of this incident.
Crime Prevention Suggestions:
- Call Security for an escort
- Report crimes immediately to Security and the St. Paul Police Department
- Do not wear earphones when walking or running alone outside, especially if it is dark
- Walk in groups-there is safety in numbers
- Don’t take unnecessary risks. Stay in populated, well-lit areas
- Remember suspect information
In case of emergency or to report a crime call security at 651-696-6555 or the St. Paul Police Department at 911. For more information, Security can be contacted by calling 651-696-6555 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
