DESIGN AND PRINTING FOR ACADEMIC POSTER PRESENTATIONS

In this session, we’ll go over some of the basics of designing a poster for an academic poster presentation (like the fall showcase, for instance!). We’ll tackle some of the technical and finicky ins and outs of PowerPoint and Google Slides for poster design, chat through font sizing and spacing, image resolution, and how to submit academic posters for printing.
3D PRINTING BASICS

Come by to learn about the types of 3D printers we have in the DRC and how to find a model and prepare it to print! As a group we’ll print a small job during this workshop and find and prepare models to bring in for printing.
GOOGLE TOOLS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Learn strategies for leveraging Google tools to help keep yourself organized and stay on top of projects. Suzanne Durkacs, Macalester’s Google expert, will lead this session diving into tools new and old that can help make life easier.
TINKERING AROUND IN TINKERCAD

In this workshop, you will learn how to modify an existing file from a repository. You will then learn how to make a box using simple shapes in tinkercad. This will give you the basic tools to design parts or things that would be useful to you in your daily life.
Making a Mixtape (CD Burning!)

In this workshop, you will learn how to create a playlist (including how to find music on sites like Bandcamp to support artists!) and burn into onto a CD, along with how to make an album cover using Adobe Illustrator.
MAC HACKS @ MAC

Where the f$!% did Apple put that setting?!?!? Learn how to do some cool, techy things with your MacBook in this tips and tricks workshop. If you’ve got a Macbook, please bring it along!
INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO EDITING WITH PREMIERE

This week we’ll be going over some of the basic tools of Premiere to get you started on video editing. As always, you’re free to come and listen or follow along yourself! We’ll be making video trailers!
BLENDER BASICS

Interested in creating your own objects to 3D print? Learn the basics of Blender for 3D modeling! We’ll be creating models for 3D printing and will be making some Halloween themed models using a few different methods. This workshop will be most useful for folks who haven’t done any 3D modeling before. As always, all are welcome.
ILLUSTRATOR BASICS FOR POSTER DESIGN

Stop by to learn the ins and outs of Adobe Illustrator for poster design (and more). We’ll go over some of the basics of Illustrator and some basic poster design tips in this hour long session.
The DRC hosts workshops on different technologies and topics throughout the semester. This schedule will be updated throughout the semester with additional offerings.
