11.6 Health and Life Insurance Continuation Coverage

Title X of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (COBRA) requires that all employer-sponsored health plans offer certain employees and their dependents the opportunity to continue health insurance, life insurance, and reimbursement account coverage under the plan after their coverage would normally have ceased. Continuation of health and life insurance coverage may be further extended under Minnesota state law.

When you become eligible for COBRA continuation due to separation of service or for another reason, you will receive a letter of notification and instruction on your rights to continue coverage. You will have 60 days to elect to continue health, life and reimbursement accounts after receipt of notice. The letter will contain information regarding rates, coverage limitations, and other details related to the COBRA benefit.

See the benefits page for specific contact information regarding the COBRA benefit.
