Bill Moseley

“Over the past two decades, Bill has inspired countless students to think critically about food security, environmental narratives, and development. For me personally, Bill’s inspiring classes and supportive advising helped me find a home at Mac. By the time I graduated, I was determined to follow in his footsteps, starting with service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa. My respect for Bill has only grown over the years, as I’ve come to appreciate just how much quiet passion and humble hard work underlie his achievements. I am grateful that he has supported me on my path over the last 20 years, regardless of how far I’ve strayed from his.”

“Each semester, before I talk about who I am, I share with my class on whose shoulders I stand on today: Bill Moseley. My career took a turn towards Africa and sustainable agriculture with the hiring of Bill twenty years ago at Macalester. As a student in his first seminar, he became my role model for combining ethical development practice with inclusive academic research (and a healthy dose of humor). My doctoral thesis focusing on organic cotton production in Africa speaks volumes of Bill and his contribution to the field.  Today, as a junior Professor of Practice of International Affairs, it is my privilege to still benefit from his mentoring, and join him in empowering our next generation of development practitioners to build a better, more just future for all.”
