THDA 43, Modern Dance III

THDA 43, Modern Dance III: This intermediate to advanced level technique course values expression, precision, and stamina. Students develop an understanding of how to use tiny muscles hidden within large muscles as they practice complex movement phrases on the ground, in the center, and across the floor. They learn a range of turns, jumps and movement sequences that build strength and agility. May be repeated for credit.

Frequency: Every Fall.

Prerequisite(s): THDA 41, 42 or permission of instructor.

Course Objectives

  1. To begin to build a strong and integrated dance technique through ongoing movement training and exploration.
  2. To begin to recognize inefficient movement patterns through a heightened awareness of breath, energy flow, and release.
  3. To develop skills in perceiving, repeating and reversing dance sequences with clarity.
  4. To deepen into one’s physical experience and power of expression through the body.

Methodology

Students will achieve these objectives through the class structure, which includes center warm-up, movement across the floor, and center phrases

Evaluation

100% participation which includes attendance, timeliness, appropriate dress, effort, and improvement.
