Exchange, Visiting, and Transfer Students

International Student Cases

  • Exchange Students

Students from the following five universities/programs with which Macalester has exchange agreements may study at Macalester for one to two semesters as an international exchange student.

Exchange students work primarily with the Macalester Center For Study Away staff. For more information about exchange programs at Macalester, or to apply to be an exchange student, please refer to the Incoming Exchange Students page on their website. Exchange students pay tuition fees to their home institution according to established exchange agreements.

ISP will support exchange students by helping them obtain a U.S. visa, facilitating their arrival at Macalester and participation in Pre-Orientation for International Students (PO4IS), as well as providing ongoing support.

  • Transfer Students

International students wishing to transfer to Macalester (either from a U.S. or foreign institution) must apply to become degree-seeking students through the Macalester Admissions Office. Transfer students may be eligible for financial aid. ISP will assist transfer students in the same manner it assists all other degree-seeking students.

  • Visiting Students

International students wishing to study at Macalester for one or more semesters who are not students at one of the five universities/programs with which Macalester has an exchange agreement must apply for attendance through the Registrar’s office. Visiting students are non-degree-seeking students and are not eligible for financial aid. ISP will help visiting students with the acquisition of a U.S. visa. Contact the Registrar’s Office at  for more information.
