Moving your body every day is an important aspect of building resilience to college stressors. And you don’t need to be an Olympic athlete to experience the undeniably positive effects on your mental health and overall well-being. These free classes are designed to help students of all abilities manage their anxiety, get stronger, stretch out, sweat, and feel better.
All classes are offered in the Leonard Center Classes and begin the week of September 16, 2019 and run for six weeks.

Yoga for Anxiety Management – this class is full with a wait list
Tuesday, 4:45 pm – 6:00 pm
Note: Attendance at all six sessions is required for this class.
This class will guide students in understanding and developing tools to manage their anxiety. Each class will focus on different skills each week and offer a gentle yoga practice that enables students to explore what helps them settle and ground. At the end of the session, each student will have a set of anxiety management skills to take from their yoga mat into daily life.

Vinyasa Yoga and Meditation,
Monday, 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Studio 1
This class is a great way to relax, exercise, and take a break from school work. Vinyasa yoga involves integrating breath with a continuous flow of yoga poses. It’s a way to workout while simultaneously focusing on the breath and taking time for yourself. All levels welcome..

Yin Yoga stretches the deep connective tissues between the muscles, as well as the fascia throughout the body. It’s great for people with any kind of back or joint pain. This class will include a shorter asana practice for exercise and increased circulation and will end with yin postures to stretch out muscles and calm the nervous system.

Invigorating Yoga Flow
Thursday, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Studio 2
Invigorating Yoga Flow caters to your goals, whether it be to challenge yourself or find your inner calm after a hectic week. This refreshing practice intends to incorporate aspects of traditional hatha yoga and yin yoga, a type of yoga which involve deep stretches to access deeper tissues like the connective tissue and fascia.

Weightlifting for Women of Color

Weightlifting for Women of Color is for those who seek to defy the social norm of the weight room demographic with a supportive and open mentality. The sessions are open to all levels. Beginners who want to learn proper weightlifting techniques are encouraged to join.

Monday, 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Studio 1
This class will include simple hip hop routines and various street styles danced primarily to urban music. Don’t feel pressured to mimic the movements exactly as taught! You are encouraged to add your own style into the choreography as you like. Take some time out of your school schedule to practice coordination, stay active, and have fun.

Zumba is a great way to get your body moving and the stress out of your mind. Come enjoy a class filled with pop music and easy dance moves that also gets you sweating. All are welcome to join this fun and stress free atmosphere that is easy to follow along with no matter your dance experience.

Join in on the easy-to-follow Zumba routines that get your heart pumping and your hips moving. The choreography includes a mix of strength building and cardio to tone the body and increase stamina. All are welcome to dance to upbeat music in a positive environment and de-stress.
