Alumni Engagement in the Entrepreneurship Program
While Macalester prioritized entrepreneurship in its 2014 strategic plan Thrive, Entrepreneurship at Macalester has been historically grounded in student and alumni driven initiatives designed to solve real world problems using the tool kit of entrepreneurship. Building upon the framework of student and alumni interest, the program offers students many opportunities in entrepreneurship, including coursework, internships, seed funding, an accelerator program, community project funding, and a hackathon. Of these opportunities, alumni founded initiatives include Macathon and the Zia & Priti Fund for Innovation and Impact.
At every stage of Entrepreneurship’s programs, alumni empower students by sharing their stories, expertise and insights. Alumni support the program as pitch judges, mentors, guest speakers, and internship supervisors. Not only do alumni help students think strategically and creatively, but also by sharing their stories they embody powerful examples of the diverse pathways to entrepreneurship for students in which to envision themselves in.
